Getting Started

Getting Started

Classroom culture can be compared to a finely tuned jazz ensemble. Each musician possesses unique talent specific to the ability to play a particular instrument. The composer at some point during the composition has afforded the opportunity for each musician to show off his or her technical skill in an improvisational performance. However, if the individual display of virtuosity overshadows the supporting accompaniment provided by the remaining musicians and the notes do not function within the same chord structure, harmony is lost. In the classroom teacher and students must interact in an equitable manner, building mutually respectful relationships, and creating a culture that honors diversity and respects the dignity of every human being….beautiful harmony!

I'm using my music background today to make a connection to the way classrooms should function so that all students have an oportunity to be sucessful: academically, socially and emotionally.

I'm thinking talking about culture is a good way to get started blogging again. I'm also hoping my husband will join me! I know several others who I hope will join the conversation, as well, all for the sake of supporting each other.
